As a 4th grader at Sterling Montessori, the founder first encountered quantum ideas when their dad moved to IBM’s quantum computing division.

On a 13th-birthday trip to IBM’s Yorktown, NY facility, the abstract became real: a quantum computer stood there like a gold chandelier.

Chapter 1

A spark before the math.

The first doorway into quantum was not an equation. It was wonder: the idea that the universe behaves in ways that are stranger, richer, and more creative than everyday intuition suggests.

Superposition is the idea that a quantum system can hold multiple possibilities before measurement. For a beginner, it is a reminder that quantum starts with curiosity before it becomes calculation.

Concept anchor: Tunneling

Quantum tunneling hints that particles can move through barriers that classical intuition says should stop them. It is the perfect metaphor for students finding paths into fields that once felt out of reach.

Chapter 2

Learning through the impossible.

Self-teaching quantum fundamentals meant bumping into ideas that sounded impossible at first — and then learning that impossible often just means “you need a new model.”

Chapter 3

The gold chandelier.

At IBM Yorktown, the founder saw a real quantum computer: the gold cryostat and dilution refrigerator often compared to a chandelier. In that moment, quantum stopped feeling like a distant theory and started feeling like a future students could actually touch.

Measurement turns quantum possibility into one visible result. For QYN, the “measurement moment” was realizing that the dream had to become something concrete: a network.

Entanglement is connection at the heart of quantum. QYN’s human version is simple: students learn more when their clubs, mentors, projects, and ideas are connected.

The future is quantum. QYN exists so young people do not have to wait until college to find a community around that future.
